RIDE ALONG PROGRAM The ride-along program exposes Explorers to the day to day activities that Sheriff’s Deputies may confront while on duty. It includes classroom instruction and practical training in various law enforcement situations. The purpose is to give the Explorers an opportunity to better understand the Deputy's role in law enforcement and to broaden the Explorer's knowledge of basic patrol procedures. Before participation, the Explorer must meet the following requirements: 1. Must be at least (15) fifteen years of age 2. Must have completed the (6) six month probation period and be in good standing with the Explorer Program a. Attend 80% of all Post meetings b. Meet 90% of all fundraising goals c. Must have attended 50% Post events and/ or volunteer opportunities 3. Must hold a current CPR certification 4. Must have a minimum of (25) twenty-five hours of dispatch communications assignment and pass a test with at least 90% on radio codes/signals and their usage 5. Parents/Guardians must attend a ride-along orientation along with the Explorer about the program and to give them an opportunity to ask questions and get any clarification 6. Parents must present (in person) a notarized waiver/release form 7. Must appear and receive approval from a review board 8. Complete a class on the proper procedures for ride along.
