The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office established a Citizen's Academy in 1997 for the purpose of educating the citizens of Montgomery County on how the Sheriff's Office is run. On behalf of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff D.T. Marshall and Chief Deputy Derrick Cunningham we would like to invite citizens of Montgomery County to participate in the upcoming Citizen's Academy to get an inside look at the nuts and bolts of the various aspects of Law Enforcement. The Citizen's Academy, sponsored by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, is offered only to citizens of Montgomery County and is a way to observe and experience how each division of the Sheriff's Office operates. The twelve week course meets one night a week, from 6 pm to 9 pm. A few of the topics covered include recruitement of Montgomery County Deputies, patrol operations, dispatch operations, use of force policies, neighborhood crime, crime scene investigation, investigation, civil process, drug enforcement, special operations unit, and corrections at the Montgomery County Jail. Also, an opportunity to ride with a Deputy on patrol and an opportunity to train on our F.A.T.S. (Firearms Training Simulator). Each class is taught by Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputies and Correctional Officers. If you are twenty-one (21) years of age or older and are interested in attending the Citizen's Academy, please contact the Sheriff Marshall's office and speak with Jackie or Tinette at 832-1338 or 832-7106 to request an application. When enough interested applicants apply, a class will be formed and dates established. You must be able to pass a criminal background check. Come join the fun, learn about Law Enforcement and remember no homework and nothing physical. |
